Seminars

Not only is there a huge emphasis on developing yourself as a leader, there is also an emphasis on growing yourself in other ways through seminars. This year, there have been seminars about finances, resumes, and cultures. Those seminars are conducted by experts in a specific field. There are also seminars at the Point, the Chancellor’s Residence. At these seminars, we are able to interact with the Chancellor and his wife.

Being able to have such a close connection to the Chancellor of the university is really amazing. The seminars that are held at The Point are always very fun, educational, and inspirational. Both the Chancellor and Mrs. Woodson are so personable and inviting, it makes them really easy to converse with. They have both offered up phenomenal advice and encouragement that means so much. It is really awesome to have such a personal relationship to the Chancellor and his wife because there is not that many students that get that kind of interaction with them.

Retreats

Each semester, fall and spring, both cohorts attend a retreat where we really try to disconnect from campus and connect as a whole program. At these retreats, we talk a lot about personal development so we can all become better leaders. At the retreat in the fall, all of the first years are really bonding for the first time so, they always participate in an activity called “Life Maps”. During this activity, they all make a map of everything that has happened in their life, good or bad, and they present it to the group. This is always a really incredible bonding experience because the first years get to see that they are not alone in their struggles. The second years always do a “Strengths Quest” activity. This is an activity that shows you where your strengths are as a leader and helps you learn how to capitalize on them. I think both of these activities are invaluable to each individual because it brings us all closer to one another and it also brings us closer to ourselves by learning a lot more about ourselves individually.
